The Process

HOW IT WORKS

01

You Source the Bike

Find your donor motorcycle — a classic BMW, Triumph, Honda CB, or any suitable candidate. You own it, you bring it. This keeps our costs honest and yours lower.

02

We Quote the Labour

Submit your build brief and we quote you on labour only. No hidden parts markups. We tell you exactly what we'll do and what it costs before we touch a spanner.

03

You Supply the Parts

Source your own aftermarket parts, seats, exhausts, clip-ons, and any new components. We'll guide you on what's needed — you buy where you get the best deal.

04

We Build Your Dream

Strip, degrease, fabricate, paint, chrome, and assemble. Every nut torqued. Every line run clean. Your bike returns transformed — ready to turn heads and eat road.

//// What We Aspire To

THE GOAL

This is a Honda CX500. To most people, an ugly water-cooled V-twin from the late 1970s nicknamed the "plastic maggot". To us, it's a blank canvas.

This is the standard we set ourselves on every build. Whatever arrives in our workshop — rusted, seized, forgotten — we want it leaving looking like this. Every time.

Our Story

BORN IN A GARAGE

Tony's Cafe Racers didn't start as a business. It started as an obsession. A leaky BMW R60 in a Port Elizabeth garage, a dog-eared stack of Bike SA magazines, and the unshakeable conviction that old motorcycles deserved better than the scrapyard.

The cafe racer wasn't invented in a boardroom. It was born on the road between London coffee shops in the 1950s — a movement of riders who stripped everything unnecessary off their bikes and rode them as fast as they could. That spirit is what we're chasing.

We operate on a labour-only model because we believe the relationship between a rider and their machine starts before it's built. When you source your own donor bike and track down your own parts, you already know that motorcycle. By the time it rolls out of our shop, it's truly yours.

Where a build requires specialist skills — chrome plating, upholstery, precision machining — we coordinate with trusted local craftsmen. We handle all job specs, quality control and logistics in-house. You deal with us. We handle the rest.
